Azerbaijan’s security forces foil terror plot against US embassy

Oct 30: On Monday a terror plot by the militant Islamists against US embassy was foiled when Azerbaijan security forces raided a village just 20 miles from the capital of Azerbaijan.

The people of Wahabi group of Sunni Islam were contemplating attack on the embassy. This is to be recalled that most sought after terrorist of the world and Al-Qaeda chief Osama-bin laden also adheres to the same group.

Spokesperson of the ministry of national security told that the plot came to the fore when security forces raided a village named Mastaga and arrested several members of the radical group including an army lieutenant, Kamran Asadov.

Security forces also seized four assault rifles, one machine gun and 20 hand grenades which were managed by the army lieutenant from his military unit and hid in the outskirts of the capital.

US department spokesperson said that they had some information about such plan by the militants who wanted to harm US embassy and people around it. Terrorists intended to target US embassy as well as other government buildings. US embassy has been closed on Tuesday for public.

As a gesture of precaution UK also closed its embassy on Monday and well remained so even on Tuesday due to some security concerns. Near by offices in the building were also shut for the time being.

This is to be known that Azerbaijan is a Shiite Muslim nation with Iran in south another Shiite Muslim nation.

Experts are of the opinion that there may be a foreign hand in the plot because any attempt to upset the religious stability of the country is guided by the foreign forces.

A precautionary warning has been issued to the Americans in Azerbaijan to be cautious and alert as far as their personal security is concerned. Embassy is likely to re-open only after tight security arrangements.
