Capello warns England players to show respect or forget World Cup

London, Sat, 24 Oct 2009 ANI

London, Oct 24 (ANI): England manager Fabio Capello has warned his players to stick to rules and show respect or forget about the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The no-nonsense Italian boss is cracking down on discipline as he prepares the squad for South Africa. And, he has hinted that any player who breaks his notoriously strict rules on behaviour, will have no chance of making the final 23-man squad.

The players have already felt the full force of Capello's fury when one dared to step out of line.

Before the recent clash with Ukraine, Capello hurled a dinner tray against a wall after spotting striker Emile Heskey using his mobile phone at the table, The Sun reports.

Speaking at the Global Sports Summit in London, he said: "It's about having respect. For example, I cannot understand why 20 players have to wait for two that arrive late. I also do not understand why people have no respect for rules that we have or anything like that."

"You must respect the coaches and others that work with you. It's all about having that respect. There is only one boss - me. I can explain decisions to people if they want it, but it's impossible to influence my decision. Everyone knows that the last decision about who plays in the team is always mine," Capello added.

He also said that his greatest feat as England boss was banishing the fear factor created by predecessor Steve McClaren.

The Three Lions chief admitted he was shocked by the side's crisis of confidence when he took charge in December 2007. England had failed to qualify for Euro 2008 and was a laughing stock with their own fans and rival nations. (ANI)
