To encourage men to use condoms for ‘safe’ sex and to avoid HIV infection, BBC World Service Trust (WST) has launched the third round of Anti-AIDS campaign. The first round was initiated in December 2007 with the tagline: ‘Jo Bole Wahi Sikander’.

Now, this campaign has reached in the third round and in this latest round, BBC WST has adopted a unique way – a ‘Condom Condom!’ ringtone - to motivate people to get aware, understand, talk and use the condom.

With the tagline: ‘Jo Samjha Wahi Sikander’ (One who understands is the winner), BBC WST has been running this campaign since August 08 with reportedly huge successes.

Under this campaign, the users in India can download the ‘condom condom’ ringtone sung by a professional singer that chanted the word ‘condom condom’ dozens times until it completes the ringing by sending a SMS written ‘CONDOM’ to 5676787 at the free of cost, however, the SMS will attract the normal SMS charges levied by the mobile operators.

Besides, the free ringtone can also be downloaded from www.condomcondom.org. According to BBC WTS, “nearby 60,000 ‘condom’ ringtones have been downloaded in just 14 days that reflects that this new style of campaign is gaining huge popularity. It is available in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi.

This unusual way has been adopted to raze Indians' reluctance to discuss condom use and to make the male contraceptive more acceptable as it can ring anytime anywhere without your prior permission whenever the subscribers get any call or miscall.

There are as many as 2.5 millions of HIV positive people, as per BBC WTS claim and this new campaign is to delivering the Centre message: ‘Smart men use condom’ making aware the people about ‘there is nothing wrong to use condom during sex, but those who uses it are considered as smart men,’ as per campaigner believe.

Earlier, BBC WTS had launched the first round of Anti-AIDS campaign that have covered 52-million of people in four states - Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu in which riddles were asked in the campaign.

The contest was advertised on TV, radio and in cinemas, as well as outdoor media and various on ground activities in shopping malls, on beaches, at transportation depots and in rural areas.

According to BBC WTS, more than 4,00,000 calls had been received and among them 25 winners had been selected through random selection process who had got a mobile set with free talk time.

In the second round of the campaign that began in March-April this year, BBC WTS has showed an advertisement- “Kabaddi”- the Indian subcontinent game in which the protagonist team defeated the macho team only by chanting ‘Condom Condom’ instead of the traditional word ‘Kabaddi Kabadddi’. This also became huge popular.
