Dehradun, Fri, 16 Oct 2009 ANI

Dehradun, Oct 14 (ANI): A special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested three policemen on Wednesday who were allegedly involved in the fake encounter killing of MBA student Ranbir Pal in Dehradun in July.

The SIT team arrested Sub Inspector G D Bhatt and two other policemen and is yet to file a chargesheet against them.

Twenty-two -year-old Ranbir, an MBA student, who was also working for a private bank, was shot dead by Dehradun Police on July 3 in the Ladpur jungles.

The arrests took place even as Dehradun was placed on high alert in view of President Pratibha Patel's visit for a day.

Uttaranchal Police claim Ranbir was shot dead in an encounter after he fled with a sub-inspector's service revolver.

The state government ordered a CBI inquiry after Ranbir's family alleged that the encounter was a fake.

According to the autopsy report, Ranbir's body had 12 bullet marks and 27 other injures.

The SIT did not find any criminal record against Ranbir during their investigations. (ANI)
