Oct 29: Chetawani Rally – a hit at incumbent NDA government

In a rally named ‘Chetawani’ held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Sunday, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav presented a report card of the Nitish Kumar Government before the public counting its failures on all fronts. He urged people to overthrow such government without waiting for five years.

Whole speech of the opposition party leader was directed at Nitish Kumar led NDA government and the incumbent chief minister of Bihar. He called the NDA led government ‘anti-people’ and ‘anti-poor’. He also said that government came to power riding on the false tall promises but has done nothing for the people on the contrary the crime graphs whether of kidnapping, rape or murder have taken an upward trend.

The government has not fulfilled its promises made to the people. Government has failed to check migration of laborers, creating employment for youths and maintaining law and order. He requested people to vote him back to power so that he could nurture Bihar as he did Railways.

Indicating the adoption of the same strategy as Mayawati in U. P. Lalu Prasad expressed his tilt to the formula of ‘Sarvajan Sukhaya’ in a bid to woo all the sections of the society. He also talked of 10 percent reservation for the poor among upper castes promising an amendment related to the same in the constitution. Making an impression on the Muslims he also promised the implementation of the recommendations of the Sachar Committee.

He also questioned the secularity of the current chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar and dwelt on the recent expose on Godhra riots. He said that government cannot claim to be secular unless it has communal ally such as BJP and RSS. Attacking Nitish Kumar on the basis of new revelation on Godhra riots, he said that if Nitish is secular why is he not demanding for arrest of Gujarat chief minister. On the contrary he is allowing communal forces to grow in the state. While RJD has always tried to crush such communal forces, he said.

Using his typical style Mr. Prasad said that this visionless government is a bubble, which can burst any time. This government also does not have any relevance as people have lost faith in it.

The rally was not the first of its kind. Earlier too Lalu has arranged ‘Tel Plawan rally’ and ‘Lathi Ghumawan rally’. This rally was just ‘Chetawani’ (warning) to the NDA government but if they fail to fulfill their promises further RJD will arrange ‘Bhagawan Rally’.

Main idea behind organizing this rally was to get an idea, which way the coming political wind may blow. But there did not seem a major shift in the political opinion if the number of gathered people is taken as a measurement. People gathered in large but not as much expected by the party.
