Forgotten Aussie test opener Phil Jaques hopes for a comeback
London, Oct. 11 (ANI): With his smashing 136 for the club side Sutherland, forgotten opener Phil Jaques hopes to register his presence with Australian selectors.
It was Jaques' second century in as many innings since making a comeback from a career threatening back injury.
The former Test opener has fallen out of favour, losing his lucrative Cricket Australia contract and seeing NSW team-mates Simon Katich, Watson and Phillip Hughes all leapfrog him at the top of the Australian batting order.
But having already scored an unbeaten 114 against Fairfield-Liverpool two weeks ago, Jaques says he is finally pain-free and hopes to come back in the Australian Test team.
"In the long run [the selectors] are going to see a better me - a much better player than the one that first broke into the Test team. I'm able to play freely for the first time in years," the Daily Telegraph quoted him, as saying.
"I'd be lying if I said playing for Australia wasn't in the back of my mind," he added. (ANI)
