Rizwanur last account: A no–win situation for police

Oct 27: The untraceable circumstances which led to the death of Rizwanur Rehman is still creating tussle.

The word said by Rizwanur Rehman did not seem to leave the police who at times are finding themselves in the no-win situation.

The story which has got a prominent place in almost all the circulation is making headlines once for suicidal attempt and next for a murder conspiracy.

The statement made by Rizwanur during his last days, revealed that he was ready to convert his religion from Islam to Hinduism if Todi’s family wanted him to do so.

In a statement, written a few days before his death in conspicuous circumstances he wrote, “I came to know Priyanka in March 2006, as she was one of my students. We developed a strong affection for each other and decided to marry over a courtship of one year. We knew it would be very difficult to convince her parents because she came from an orthodox Marwari background. So we decided to arrange for court marriage, because both of us were adults and were legally eligible for marriage, and then inform our families.”

In the statement, Rizwanur wrote, “My father-in-law spoke to me. He told me that I would have to convert to Hinduism to which I agreed.”

The letter was recovered near the railway track where Rizwanur’s body was found.

Earlier the letter got published by The Telegraph and later in several other newspapers, the letter carries the signatures of Rizwanur Rehman and Priyanka Todi.

The letter also mentioned that they were threatened with the dreadful affair if they continue to stay together and the impression of the seal of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in acknowledgement of receipt.

The letter was also telling aloud that there is a fear to their life and they are badly in need of protection which the protector failed to provide.

The letter mentioned "Please be informed that if anything happens to us, the person responsible will be Ashok Kumar Todi”.

Daily with new revelation the case seems to be abruptly shifting from one end to other.

Yet in another bitter disclosure new evidence against Ashok Todi, Rizwanur’s father-in-law has been surfaced in which Todi has used the real estate developer Hasan and Majid to threatened Rizwanur to divorce Priyanka Todi.

This came in the light when the two confessed that they were asked to convince Rehman’s family to agree for a divorce so that Priyanka could go back to her family.

The investigating agency CBI has interrogated both the men, who are currently under scan and is keeping a check on their activities.

Also the selective leak of Rizwanur’s SMSs was making round which can be seen as an attempt to divert the attention from the alleged ongoing nexus of police officers and Todi.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has directed to stop the judicial probe as he expressed satisfaction over the current CBI investigations.
