Oct 27: Naxal attack in Giridih district of Jharkhand killed at least 16 people including the son of former chief minister Babulal Marandi on late Friday night. The incident took place at a cultural function, which was taking place at the Chilkhadi village.

Reportedly about 30 Naxalites including men and women entered the Chilkhadi village of Giridih district at around 1a.m. in the midnight. The naxalites exploded bombs and fired fiercely at the crowd, who was attending function, which left at least 17 people dead on the spot and two others on their way to hospital.

Giridih district is the home district of former CM Marandi and it certainly presents a clear scenario on the present security measures of the state government, as the former CM’s son is one of the victims of the Naxalites insurgence.

Jharkhand is one of the states of North and North-East India which is under the weight of Maoist attack for a long time now but neither the centre nor the state government has done much in this regard. Such attacks only attend a lack of clear vision of the concerned authorities to deal with terrorism.

Despite being one of the rich states, as mines of mineral resources is concerned, the state has completely failed to address the issues of common man and as a result naxalites is absorbing its stand across the state. The state is presently governing under the rule of an independent candidate Madhu Kode with the support of Congress and JMM.

Earlier in the month of April, six persons were killed including two CISF security personnel by naxals in Bokaro district. In another recent incident on Sep 07 two persons were shot dead at Digha village in Jharkhand.

Maoist’s activities are increasing day-by-day and states like Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh are the worst hit. As far as Jharkhand is concerned, Maoists are active in all mineral-rich village areas of the state but neither the state nor the central administration has taken any concrete steps to stop the menace.
