Google's bizarre doodles were HG Wells tribute

London, September 21 (ANI): The meaning behind Google's adoption of bizarre logos on its home page has been revealed-they were a tribute to renowned English author HG Wells, born 143 years ago.

The internet giant previously left users baffled, and sparked online speculation with a series of changes to the famous logo at the time when there seemed to be no major event.

But the company has now revealed that the doodles, including UFOs, crop circles and the "abduction" of the letter "o" in its name, were part of the tribute to Wells, also referred as "The Father of Science Fiction".

"We're finally acknowledging the reason for the doodles with an official nod to Herbert George, who would be 143 years old today," the Telegraph quoted Google as saying.

"Inspiration for innovation in technology and design can come from lots of places; we wanted to celebrate HG Wells as an author who encouraged fantastical thinking about what it possible, on this planet and beyond," Google added. (ANI)
