India registers protest on rocket firing from Pakistan side
Amritsar, Sep. 12 (ANI): India on Saturday registered a strong protest with Pakistan over firing of rockets from across the border that exploded two kilometres inside Punjab.
It was second instance of firing by Pakistan in a span of two months.
During the flag meeting held between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistani Rangers held in the wee hours of Saturday, the issue was raised strongly by the Indian side.
The missiles fell in open fields in Modhey and Dhoneya Khurd villages in Attari sector on the India-Pakistan border, prompting retaliatory gunfire from the BSF jawans.
"We held a flag meeting at about one a.m. and made a very strong protest to them (Pakistani Rangers) about this incident," BSF Inspector General Himmat Singh told reporters in Amritsar.
Singh said: "On Friday night, at about 10 pm, the BSF troops posted at Pulkanjini border outpost saw flashlights and firing from Pakistan territory and after a very short gap, they heard explosions. Our troops on the border retaliated immediately, very strongly...after that no incident of fire from Pakistani side was reported."
On Friday, around three to five rocket shells were lobbed on the Indian territory from Pakistan. Incidentally, it incident occurred on the night when Border Security Force (BSF) deployed its first batch of women on the India-Pakistan border.
According to reports, three rockets were fired by Pakistan which fell in the two border villages of Dhanoae Kachye and Modahe, however no causality has been reported since the rockets fell into paddy fields.
Jagir Singh, Deputy Inspector General of BSF, confirmed over phone, late Friday night rockets fired from Pakistan side have been traced.
The BSF traced the fourth rocket lobbed by Pakistan last night at Daleke village.
Earlier, on July 5, Pakistan had lobbed three rockets towards India that fell in the Dhandae, Bherwal and Konake villages on Indian side. (ANI)
