Oct 23: Hindustan and BSF won their respective matches in the Durand qualifiers

A tardy second-half effort by the Border Security Force players steered their team to post a 3-0 convincing win over Corps of Signals, Goa, to set a date for crucial main round challenge, against local outfit Hindustan Football club which sneaked past local rivals Garhwal Heroes 5-4 via tie-breaker in the qualifying matches of the 120th Osian’s Durand Cup played at the Ambedkar stadium here on Monday.

The match between BSF and Corps of Signals witnessed some quality football right from the start of the match. Players from both the sides tried their hard to outscore each other with repeated attacks in the rival citadel but the first half ended goalless.

After resumption, the securitymen rejuvenated themselves in quest of a goal and their efforts finally paid off when Ph. Boy Singh of BSF shot ahead his team in the 66th minute. Harjit Singh scored once again in the 84th minute to increase the tally before Sarbjeet Singh slotted the final goal of the match in the injury time.

Earlier in the first match Hindustan FC scored a narrow victory over Garhwal Heroes. Hindustan FC had a slight edge over their rivals. After a barren first half, the Hindustan FC players charged down with some planned attacks and had the maximum ball possession.

The Hindustan players controlled the second-half game and the action got restricted to Garhwal Heroes arena. Regular raids and shots were attempted towards the Garhwal Heroes post, but the custodian put up a fine show under the bars thwarting those attempts.

The match ended goalless in the regulation time leading the play to penalty shoot out. Manish Maithani, Jagbandhu Modi, Israel Gurung, Nathan and Harminder Singh scored for Hindustan while Ashish Pandey, Devesh Kaushik, Inderjit Sharma and G. Kamei were marksmen for their rivals. Garhwal Heroes Rajib Karmakar took the final shot, which was well blocked by Hindustan goalkeeper Santosh Kumar Das to guide his team to victory.
