New Delhi, Aug 18 (ANI): The flooded Yamuna River has inundated low-lying areas in New Delhi.
The Yamuna River flowed above danger mark after a gap of five years, touching 205.55 meters.
This is about 1.5 meters above the red mark. The water level in the Yamuna is rising consistently as Haryana is releasing 25,000 cusecs of water everyday.
The river waters have inundated fields along the river bed and also a village in low lying area of Delhi
Many houses have been submerged forcing people to take shelter on the roofs tops of their houses. Many s moved their belongings using make shift boats to safer and drier areas.
The villagers lamented apathy on the part of the state authorities in providing rescue and relief in the affected areas.
"Yesterday water flooded our village. Many people are trapped inside. No help has come so far despite us informing the authorities. We had asked for a boat which is not been provided yet," said Tarun Kumar, a resident.
"There is no provision for us. People are trapped. Many are sitting on roofs of their houses. Everybody is very troubled," said Akhtatri Begum, another resident.
The city faced heavy floods in 1978, when the Yamuna crossed the danger mark and rose to 207.49. The river had also crossed danger level in 1995 and 1998.
The city received a rainfall of 18.02 mm between 8.30 am and 5.30 p.m.on Sunday. (ANI)
