New Delhi, Aug 16 (ANI): A high-level meeting of the Congress was held here last night to review to the ongoing situation of Jammu and Kashmir over the Amarnath land transfer row.
External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee discussed the situation and ways to find a solution with PCC president Saifuddin Soz and former state chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Political Adviser to the Congress president, Ahmed Patel was also present during the meeting.
Earlier, during his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had said that in this hour of crisis, divisive politics would lead the country and its citizens nowhere.
"I appeal to all political parties to keep the long term interests of Jammu and Kashmir in view and come together to find a permanent solution to the problems of the State. The sacred shrine of Shri Amarnath inspires all Indians to march together. This shrine is a shining example of our secular tradition, where Hindu pilgrims have been looked after for years by their Muslim brothers," he said while addressing the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort.
The row has been on the boil since the State Government transferred 100 acres of land near the Amarnath cave to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board for setting up temporary shelters for pilgrims. (ANI)
