Mumbai, Aug 7 (ANI): Fox Star Studios, a joint venture of 20th Century Fox and Star, has announced that it has acquired marketing and distribution rights of Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Bollywood film, 'My Name is Khan'.
The film is directed and produced by Bollywood director-producer, Karan Johar. Khan is the co-producer of the film.
Fox Star will market and distribute the film in India while Fox Searchlight Pictures will release the film in US.
The film will be distributed outside India and the US by 20th Century Fox International.
Sanford Panitch, president of 20th Century Fox International described 'My Name is Khan' as film with a global appeal.
"For us, we hope that it is the beginning of collaboration with Karan and Shah Rukh Khan. This film is uniquely special," said Panitch.
Shah Rukh Khan said he hoped that the venture would catapult Bollywood films onto a global platform.
"The fact that they are recognizing a Karan Johar film as a film that they can like to release on an international platform genuinely for the first time in the history of Indian cinema I think if I am not wrong, I think it is great honour in itself and hopefully our film is good enough that it will take all of us all of us that is you, me, Karan, the whole film industry take a step forward to the next level," said Khan.
The film stars popular Bollywood actress, Kajol in the main female lead.
Khan essays the character of Rizwan Khan who suffers from Asperger syndrome, a form of autism that affects social interaction abilities.
The film is set against the 9/11 terror attacks and its impact on an Indian Muslim living in the United States. (ANI)
