4 killed in clashes between farmers and police in Greater Noida
Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), August 13 (ANI): At least three farmers and one police constable died and 50 others injured in police firing in Greater Noida when agitating farmers demanding adequate compensation for their acquired land by the Uttar Pradesh Government turned violent.
Around 2000 farmers were protesting for the past few days demanding enhanced compensation for their land acquired in 2006 by the Uttar Pradesh government. The demonstrators turned violent this afternoon pelting stones at policemen.
Policemen who were present on the spot, tried to control the mob, resorted to baton charge and teargas shells to disperse the mob.
As violence continued, police opened fire.
About 50 people were injured including about a dozen police personnel. The mob also damaged a dozen vehicles including two police jeeps, a civil official's car and a tractor. (ANI)
