Jammu, July 30 (ANI): Activists of the National Conference party took to streets here on Thursday over the allegations made against state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of his involvement in the 2006 sex scandal.

The protesters chanting slogans against PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and her party burnt Mufti's effigy as well.

Angered by the accusations levelled against Omar Abdullah, the activists said they would give a stiff opposition to the PDP be it on roads or inside the Assembly.

"The PDP sometimes gives a slogan of self-rule, sometimes of Muzaffarabad march and sometimes calls for demilitarization. We want to convey to them that whether they are protesting on roads or inside the Assembly, we will face these anti-national powers strongly," said Vinod Bhalla, a protester.

On Wednesday, Mufti blamed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of shielding Omar Abdullah in the case.

She said that the investigation by the CBI lost its momentum after some names like Omar Abdullah had cropped up.

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had come to Omar Abdullah's defence by saying that his name does not figure in the chargesheet filed by the CBI in the sex scandal.

PDP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Beig had levelled the allegation that Abdullah was involved in the infamous Srinagar sex scandal. (ANI)
