Chennai, July 26 (ANI): A two-day banana festival began in Chennai City on Saturday with a view to encourage its consumption.
Organised by the state-run Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), the festival aims to promote the consumption of banana fruit and create awareness about its many medicinal propertiess many as 40 stalls have been mounted, displaying 22 varieties of the fruit.

"This festival is really giving fruitful information to the people because people don't know how many varieties of banana fruit they are eating. By visiting this festival they will come to know exactly what kind of banana they eat and also which one is nutritious and healthy," said V. Irai Anbu, Tourism Secretary, Tamil Nadu.
Banana-based food items and juices prepared by catering institutes were kept for exhibition and sale.
"There are different kinds of bananas over here. It is very healthy alternative," said Surya, a student. (ANI)
