Floodwater ravage Nashik, people moved to safer places
Nashik, July 24 (ANI): Floodwaters have ravaged Nashik district, prompting the authorities to shift hundreds of people to safer places on Friday.
Incessant rain for the fifth consecutive day, caused in sharp increase in water levels in Gangapur and Darna dams in the district.
Water released from both dams flooded the tribal-dominated Lgatpuri tehsil. Water was flowing over a bridge at Kaluste village, disrupting vehicular traffic to nearly 20 villages.
Met department sources said that 5444.30 mm of rains had hit the district since Thursday.
Sources said one person was washed away near the Talkuteshwar Temple, while another was killed by wall collapse at Wajgaon.
Many huts on the banks of rivers Godavari, Darna, Waldevi and Girna have been washed away, they added.
People living on the riverbank have been asked to move to safer places.
The Darna and Gangapur dams, have a capacity of 7149 and 5630 million cubic feet and each has breached the half level mark
Nashik Collector Mahesh Zagde has reviewed the situation and ordered appropriate relief and rehabilitation measures (ANI)
