Ajmer, Fri, 24 Jul 2009 ANI

Ajmer, July 24 (ANI): Police resorted to baton-charge following a scuffle with scores of women protesting against water scarcity in Ajmer.

The city has been reeling under acute water shortage for the past four days.

Angry residents of a locality that receives its piped water supply from an adjacent cantonment took to the streets on Thursday.

When the police asked the protesters to disperse, a scuffle followed, prompting the police to baton-charge the mob.

Some residents as well as policemen were injured in the clashes while the police detained half a dozen miscreants.

Incidents of people protesting utterly poor service by utilities such as power and water supply and garbage disposal are on the rise across the country, as urban conglomerates tend to collapse under the pressure of population explosion. (ANI)
