London, July 20 (ANI): Australian cricket team coach Tim Nielsen has said that he would have liked the catch that England captain Andrew Strauss took of opener Phillip Hughes referred to the third umpire.
"I would have liked to have seen it gone to the third umpire from a consistency point of view.
When we have the availability of the technology and it is being used already in the game it would be good to follow it up. We have all seen the replays. People will make their decisions.
At the moment the scorebook says that Phillip Hughes is sitting up with me," the Daily Telegraph quoted Nielsen, as saying.
"There's nothing much we can do about it now. We knew at times things would go our way and things wouldn't," he added.
The Australian players were fuming that the Strauss catch was not referred upstairs - while Nathan Hauritz's low catch off Ravi Bopara was not awarded after a video review.
England offspinner Graeme Swann, who was fielding at third slip, claimed there was no doubt that Strauss's catch was fair.
"The umpires saw it and thought it carried. I was at third slip and I certainly thought it carried as well. As far as we are concerned there was no problem with that catch, it went straight in," Swann said.
With Australia (5-313) needing 209 more runs today, Nielsen insisted his side could conjure Test cricket's greatest run chase. He is confident Michael Clarke (125 n.o) and Brad Haddin (80 n.o.) can go all the way.
"We believe in ourselves. We have had two players play out of their skins when our backs were to the wall so I am very proud of them. I'm very pleased that in adversity the team has been able to keep fighting," Nielsen said. (ANI)
