Bhopal, July 17 (ANI): Students of a woman's nursing college in Bhopal were baton charged while they were protesting outside the residence of Jayant Mallya, State Minister of Urban Development, Environment and Water Resources.
The students alleged that Mallya's wife Sudha Mallya ran a nursing college, which denied them of basic facilities. According to them, Mallya's wife would often threaten them with rustication.
They further alleged that Sudha accused them of running a prostitution racket in the college campus.
Police had to baton charge the students as they tried to forcibly enter the residence of the Mallya.
"The facilities which we deserve are not being provided by the college authorities. We have been humiliated. It's been four days, we haven't got food and when we tried to protest against it, we were accused of running a prostitution business, " said Mahima, an injured girl.
The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) supported the medical students and were also baton charged by policemen as the situation turned violent.
"We wanted to talk to the college authority in a peaceful manner but that didn't happen. There were only two woman police officers while the rest kicked, slapped and baton charged the girls," said Rashmi Pawar, State President, NSUI.
The injured were immediately rushed to the local hospital. (ANI)
