Pak's intriguing political 'ping-pong' game over Saeed's detention continues

Islamabad, July 17 (ANI): In the continuing game of political 'ping-pong' over Jamaat-ud-Dawaa (JuD) chief Hafeez Mohammad Saeed ,the Pakistan government has now claimed that it has enough proof against him to overturn the Lahore High Court's verdict to release the 26/11 mastermind.

Deputy Attorney General Shah Khawar said the government has enough evidence against Saeed, and that it would utilize those facts to persuade the Supreme Court to declare the high court's verdict invalid.

"We are still optimistic that we have enough evidence to persuade the Supreme Court to accept our appeal," The Dawn quoted Khawar, as saying.

The federal government's claim is in complete contrast with the Punjab government's statement in which it stated that it lacks evidence against the JuD chief and his close ally Colonel (retired) Nazir Ahmed.

Earlier, the Supreme Court deferred the hearing into the case on the federal government's request.

Khawar said the final decision on whether to pursue the case further would be taken by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani after he returns from the NAM summit.

"Since the matter was of a sensitive nature, a decision to pursue the case in the Supreme Court would be taken by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani after his return from Sharm- El-Sheikh," he said.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government said that it would pursue the detention case of Saeed and Colonel Ahmed provided the federal government presents it with more fresh evidence against the 26/11 prime accused. (ANI)
