Floods continue to disrupt normal life in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 11 (ANI): Heavy monsoon downpour and flooded streets continue to disrupt normal life in Mumbai on Monday.

Many commuters were stranded on the flooded streets as their vehicles broke down.

In the worst hit areas, pedestrians waded through filthy knee-deep water facing lots of difficulty in commuting.

The local trains considered to be the lifeline of Mumbai are running late and are even stranded at several places.

"I am coming to Mumbai from Akola, and all the trains are running two to five hours late," said Rajni, a commuter.

For past many years, monsoon rains have been playing havoc in Mumbai bringing about chaos in the entire region.

During the 2005 monsoon, the most catastrophic the city has seen, a metre's worth of rain fell in a single day.

As a result more than 300 people were drowned, smothered in landslides and panicky stampedes or electrocuted during the week of flooding of almost biblical proportions. (ANI)
