Fake currency seized in New Delhi

General News, Wed, 08 Jul 2009 ANI

New Delhi, July 8 (ANI): Police here arrested five men for smuggling counterfeit Indian currency worth one million rupees.

Police recovered bundles of notes in the denomination of 500 rupees from them.

Neeraj Thakur, Deputy Police Commissioner of Delhi Police (Crime) said that the fake currency was brought from Pakistan.

"They have their contacts in Pakistan and this time they had asked them to supply the money via Kathmandu. They used to smuggle money via air, road and rail," said Thakur.

Police said the fake ones were of high quality, which closely resembled the real ones.

"All notes are printed on excellent paper and printing quality and laymen would not be able to make out the difference," added Thakur.

India accuses Pakistan of trying to derail its economy by pumping in fake currency. Pakistan denies the charges. (ANI)
