PPP shocked at Musharraf warning to Bhutto to "support him or be killed"

Islamabad, Aug 11 (ANI): The PPP has reportedly expressed grave concern over reports that President Pervez Musharraf had warned former PPP chairperson and prime minister Benazir Bhutto that her life in Pakistan would be in danger if she "did not extend political co-operation to him".

Pulitzer Prize winning author Ron Suskind made the revelation in his recently published book 'The Ways of the World'.

In one of his secretly taped conversations, the author claims Musharraf warned Benazir -- "You should understand something. Your security is based on the state of our relationship."

Following the revelation, the PPP has said that now it was amply clear that the former military rulers (in Pakistan) were actually behind Benazir's murder.

"The revelation, if true, lends enormous credence to what was generally talked about in Pakistan's streets about the likely killers of Benazir Bhutto. It also lends significance to the last e-mail she had sent to her lobbyist in the United States, pointing out dangers to her life and indicating who she suspected could be involved if something happened to her," the Daily Times quoted PPP spokesperson Farhatullah Babar as saying.

He said the party had already approached the UN Secretary General to investigate Benazir's assassination. "In the final analysis, nothing remains secret and it is a law of nature to expose killers, tyrants and brigands in ways one cannot even comprehend," he said.

Babar said Benazir Bhutto had died for the sake of the people and democracy, adding that her sacrifices would not go in vain. (ANI)
