Tibetans-in-exile take out protest march in Dharamsala against China

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Dharamsala, Aug 10 (ANI): Continuing with their agitation against China, the Tibetans-in-exile took out a protest march here today. Scores of Tibetans exiles and monks marched down the narrow hilly roads shouting slogans against the Chinese and demanding freedom for their homeland.

The protesters said they were hopeful that their protests would bear fruit and China would be compelled to take some concrete steps regarding Tibet.

"We are very optimistic about this. It will affect the Chinese Government. They will do something for the benefit of Tibet," said Tenzin Norbu, a Tibetan monk.

China has controlled Tibet since People's Liberation Army troops marched into the region in 1950 and Beijing considers Tibet as an integral part of its territory.

Tibetans are trying to reinvigorate their freedom movement and protest against what they see as China's illegal occupation of their homeland.

Over 25,000 Tibetans are expected to gather in New Delhi on August 8 to participate in a mass demonstration campaign and appeal to the world community to boycott the Beijing Olympics. (ANI)
