Srinagar, June 24(ANI): A top Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist was arrested on Wednesday from Sopore distrcit in Jammu and Kashmir, in a joint operation between the Jammu and Kashmir police, Central Reserve Police Force and the army.
Acting on specific information, security personnel launched a cordon and search operation in Sopore distrcit and arrested Abid alias Assadullah, who was the Battalion Commander of the banned terrorist organisation and has been active in this region for the last two years and is involved in various attacks on security forces, at Wetlab, 65km from here on Sopore-Bandipora Road, official sources said.
According to reports, Abid is a resident of Peshawar in Pakistan.
Police have recovered a Chinese pistol, four rounds of ammunition and one magazine from the terrorist.
Over the past fortnight, Sopore has witnessed a series of militant attacks, resulting in the killing of five persons including two policemen and a woman. (ANI)
