Oct 05: Left concerns over the nuclear deal with US have not been addressed yet and UPA Left meeting on the same is yet another step to resolve the issue. But there hardly seems any hope of any quick resolution of the differences in wake of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s speech in New York over the deal which indicated that government would go ahead with the operationalisation of the deal.

Such indication has evoked sharp reaction from the Left camp which has warned the government not to take the Left differences on the nuclear deal light and its support for granted.

Left has clearly denied any prospect of reconciliation until the government agrees not to go ahead with the deal. After much differences Left has given clear indications that any step forward holding the meeting with IAEA they will withdraw the support.

They made it clear that they will not continue to support the government in case of violation of the common minimum program.

Left has said that India should not be a part of US strategic plan of imperialism to promote unilateralism.

Left has now taken the whole foreign policy of UPA government on target saying that they are not willing to support a government who is following NDA-led foreign policy. This has brought clouds of doubt over the reconciliation of the allies on the issue.

Issues to be discussed in the meeting are the Hyde act, 123 agreement and its implications on the India’s power sector, foreign policy and status of the negotiations with the IAEA. They will also seek for the redressal of their concerns over broader foreign policy issue such as India’s vote against Iran.
