Himachal Pradesh farmers concentrate on off-season vegetables

Shimla, June 15 (ANI): Off-season vegetable farming, mainly cauliflower, is proving to be beneficial for farmers in Himachal Pradesh.

 

Shimla, Solan, Sirmour, Kullu, Una and Kangra are the main districts of the state growing off- season vegetables including cabbage, cauliflower and tomato.

 

Thousands of farmers are grow vegetables in Himachal when there are less vegetable crops across the country.

 

Currently, cauliflower farming fetch good prices to Shimla farmers.

 

"Nowadays off-season vegetables are grown in Himachal Pradesh region. Vegetables like cauliflower are grown. People generally get good price from these off-season crops and they also fetch good earnings from it," said Lekh Raj, a progressive farmer in Shimla.

 

Farmers say that these vegetables also raised their financial standing.

 

"Cultivation of these crops has improved our financial status. Good production generates good income," said Seema Sharma, a farmer.

 

Off-season vegetable production, which was nearly 34-35 thousand tons earlier, has now increased to 10 Lakh tons.

 

Between April to June, cauliflower is grown in Theog and Matiyana areas of Shimla and tomato is grown in Solan district of the state. (ANI)
