Dera chief gets interim bail till Oct 15

Oct 04: A special CBI court in Ambala today granted interim bail to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh who is implicated in murder and sexual harassment cases.

The court granted him bail on three separate bail bonds of rupees three lakh each and set Oct 15 as the next hearing date.

The Dera chief has been charged in murdering of Ram Chander Chatrapati, Sirsa-based journalist for having information of his alleged illegal activities, killing driver Ranjit Singh, and sexually harassing a female disciple.

Thousands of supporters are thronging to show solidarity in support of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief and hence the administration had arranged tight security in Ambala district to avoid any kind of mishap as the affair remains tense between Sikh communities.

Security has been beefed up and the roads leading to Ambala has been sealed. Also all school and colleges has been shut to avoid any mishap during the hearing in CBI court of Ambala.

Dera chief was to seek regular bail, Punjab and Haryana government had granted interim bail to him. It is to mention that on Sep 17, the High Court had granted interim bail till the Amabala Sessions Court’s hearing.

Earlier Supreme Court has advised the kin of journalist to approach before the trial court as CBI has filed chargesheet with the trial court. The Supreme Court yesterday (Oct 03) had declined to quash the interim bail granted to the Dera chief in the criminal cases filed against him by the CBI.

Presently the Trial Court is dealing with all the aspects of the cases.

There is a heavy deployment of forces outside the court as they have been told to be prepared if Dera chief will be taken in the custody. But as the court granted him bail the situation advances to normal in the region.

Dera Sacha Sauda is a Sirsa based non-profit spiritual organisation. This came into controversies after Dera Chief dressed like Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, which led to serious law and order problem in various part of North India.

He apologised to the Sikh Community but Akal Takht, the prime body of Sikh community rejected the apology.

Later a sting operation by Tehelka uncovered various crimes in which he is supposed to have involved.
