Mumabi, June 9 (ANI): A local Mumbai court here on Tuesday granted bail to socialite Sheetal Mafatlal in the case related to alleged evasion of custom duty on jewellery worth over rupees 53 lakhs being carried by her during return journey from London on weekend.
Sheetal, however, may have to spend another night in Byculla Jail as formalities for furnishing cash or surety might take time, Satish Maneshinde, Sheetal's lawyer told media on Tuesday.
The magistrate gave permission for Sheetal's bail on deposit of Rs. 500,000 in cash or surety and asked her to deposit Rs 18 lakhs with the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs.
Sheetal has also been asked to report to the Customs twice a week on Monday and Thursday and told not to leave the country without the permission of the court.
Sheetal was detained at the airport here on Sunday after she was found to be carrying 61 items of assorted jewellery, two wrist watches and a ladies handbag valued by Customs to the tune of Rs 53.67 lakh. (ANI)
