New Delhi, Fri, 05 Jun 2009 ANI

New Delhi, June 5 (ANI): Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajya Sabha were outraged over a remark by Congress leader Satyavarat Chaturvedi on Friday, which led to chaos in the upper House of Parliament.

The incident occurred when highlighting the Government's plan of action as envisaged in the President's address, Satyavarat Chaturvedi made a comment at opposition BJP's election campaign.

"Venomous public speeches were given publicly. But it is fortunate that the front-runners of such politics failed wherever they went...people negated wherever attempts were made for "Modikaran"," Chaturvedi said.

Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said that it wasn't fair to mention names and the Congress leader has even made a factually incorrect statement.

S S Ahluwalia, another leader, mentioned about rules and wondered if it was justified to name a person who is not even present in the House. oing further, Ahluwalia said "taking caste name is all the more serious an offence if Modikaran has been said in reference to this."

After disruptions, the normal functioning of the House commenced after Hamid Ansari's assurance of looking into the matter. But Chaturvedi once again invited criticism by again saying, "We feel proud to say that we have done Gandhikaran of Congress. Why do you (BJP) feel ashamed about Modikaran."

"If they (BJP) have an objection (to taking Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's name), I remove Modikaran and say it as RSSkaran (RSS-isation)," he added.

While BJP leader Naidu reacted to Chaturvedi's remarks saying : He is an asset to us and we are proud of him (Narendra Modi)" and added that he could understand Chaturvedi's problem with "Narendra Bhai".

Meanwhile, other BJP members Purushottam Rupala, Ravishankar Prasad and some other party MPs also resented the Congress leader's statement and appreciated Gujarat's "huge contribution" in the country's economy. (ANI)
