Health insurance for BPL unorganised sector workers begins today

Oct 01: Itis a true gift for the ‘Aam Aadmi’ from the Central government as government is going to launch a Health Insurance Scheme, ‘Aam Aadmi Bima Yojna’ for 40 crore unorganised sector workers from today on the occasion of birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation who has been known the true godfather of the Aam Adami.

 


Earlier the people below poverty line and working in any unorganised sector would be covered, stated a labour ministry official in New Delhi. “The health insurance cover will benefit workers and families living Below Poverty Line in the unorganised sector and government has already asked to formulate this project”, said labour ministry official.


Under this scheme, first of all smart cards would be issued with social security number to identify them. In the ‘Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana’ Rs. 75,000 would be provided to the victim’s family in the condition of death of the assure or in permanent disability due to accident.


In case of partial disability due to accident, the insurance cover would be Rs.37,500 while upon death of a member, prior to terminal date, Rs.30,000 would be given as a assurance money to the nearest relative.


The scheme predicts life and disability cover to all rural landless households in the country.


The total premium of this scheme is determined Rs. 200 per month that is born by the Central as well as State government jointly. The Central would bear 75% portion of the premium while rest of that would be born by the State government as per the declared in the plan.


The Finance Minister has already committed Rs.1,000 crore for the scheme in the Budget while remaining amount will be given by State Governments as the ministry informed the media. The only purpose of this project is to provide social security to the unorganised sector workers.
