Ruckus in Pak Senate over allegation that Musharraf 'bribed' MPs to retain Presidency

Islamabad, Aug 7 (ANI): The Upper House of Pakistan's parliament the Senate witnessed pandemonium amid heated exchange of words between the Opposition and Treasury benches last evening when Senator Kamran Murtaza's alleged that President Pervez Musharraf had paid Rs 25 crore to some members of the parliament to elect him as the president.

Murtaza had levelled these allegations against Musharraf on Tuesday.

Senator Pari Gul Agha said that the allegation had put a question mark on the integrity of senators and Murtaza should submit proof to support his claim.

As several senators started to speak at the same time, Presiding Officer Safdar Abbasi urged Agha to move a motion so that the issue could be taken up in the House.

Senator Murtaza insisted that he stood by his statement, but added that he spoke of some "members". Leader of the Opposition Kamil Ali Agha said that he would move a privilege motion unless Murtaza named those members on the floor of the House. (ANI)
