Sehwag to be bestowed with ‘Golden Bat’ by DDCA!

Oct 01: The Delhi & District Cricket Association is planning to honour their Twenty20 stars Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, after their triumphant return from the Twenty20 World championship, for their valuable contribution and to become the part of history of the Twenty20 World Cup.

The Sports committee of the DDCA have decided to bestow Sehwag with a 309 gm. Golden Bat which will cost around Rs Three lakh, acknowledging his rare feat of scoring a Test Triple hundred (309 runs) in 2003-04 against Pakistan in Multan. The committee also given a proposal to the DDCA President Arun Jaitley, as the state association could not be able to honour him for his great achievement during that time, Padam Chauhan, one of the DDCA sports committee member, confirmed it to Newstrack India.

The proposal now is in the kind consideration of the DDCA President Jaitley for his approval and it would face no difficulty in getting his consent, as Sehwag has done a lot for his state and the country to be proud of him, to award him with such a nice gesture. The association will also honour their Sports Secretary Sunil Dev, who was the administrative manger of the Indian cricket team during the Twenty20 World cup.

The Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Shiela Dikshit and the state association have already announced a reward of Rs. 5 lakh each for both the players. Subsequently DDCA is also planning to organise both functions jointly, so that they would be able to give them Rs. 11 lakh each i.e. by increasing the total amount with Rs. one lakh from their side, to confer Sehwag with a golden bat.

Both Sehwag-Gambhir opening duo had given rollicking start to the Indian team in the initial matches paving the team’s way towards the finals. Ironically Sehwag was little unlucky to miss the final due to hamstring injury despite playing in all the matches of the Twenty20 World cup while his opening partner and statemate Gautam Gambhir continued his impeccable form throughout the tournament delivering superbly in the final against Pakistan to provide his team a fighting total. He played a quickfire knock of 75 runs in just 54 balls.
