Four killed in blast in Pakistan's northwest

Pakistan, Mon, 01 Jun 2009 IANS

Islamabad, June 1 (IANS) Four people were killed in a blast Monday in Kohat town in Pakistan's restive northwest where the military is currently engaged in a major anti-Taliban operation, a media report said.

The blast, the second in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) in a week, occurred at a bus stand in Kohat's Teera Bazar area, Geo TV said.

Fifteen people had been killed in twin blasts and a suicide bombing at a police check post in provincial capital Peshawar last Thursday.

The latest incident came as the Pakistani security forces' operations against the Taliban in three districts of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) entered its 38th day Monday.

The military says over 1,200 militants have so far been killed in the operations, which have seen close to three million civilians fleeing the fighting in the Swat, Buner and Lower Dir districts of the NWFP.
