Malaysia's Indian Progressive Front seeks Vellu's help to join Barisan

Kuala Lumpur, June 1 (ANI): The Indian Progressive Front (IPF) plans to meet Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president S. Samy Vellu to seek his cooperation in bringing the party into the fold of the Barisan Nasional.

According to The Star, IPF acting president M.N. Mathiyalagan said the time is right for the IPF to be admitted as one of the component members of Barisan Nasional.

He said the meeting was important as Barisan leaders always sought Vellu's views whenever an Indian-based party applied to join the coalition.

He, however, ruled out any possibility of IPF merging with newly formed Makkal Sakti even if it failed in its bid to join Barisan.

Mathiyalagan said IPF would hold its party election on June 21. He said nominees are eligible to contest for the party's top posts. The party has more than 150,000 members and 1,000 branches. (ANI)
