London, May 31 (ANI): Jerome David "JD" Salinger is in talks with his legal team regarding the publication of another author's unauthorised sequel to his 1951 novel The Catcher in the Rye.

Salinger, who has been living in isolation in rural New Hampshire for more than half a century and is famous for his reclusive nature, turned to lawyers about the new book "60 Years Later: oming Through the Rye", penned by a Swedish-American debut novelist John David California.

The 90-year-old's literary agent Phyllis Westberg at Harold Ober Associates in New York confirmed the involvement of legal aides.

"The matter has been turned over to a lawyer," the Telegraph quoted Phyllis as saying.

Meanwhile, California, who has dedicated his book to JD Salinger with the message "the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life", insists that despite clear parallels between the two books, his story is an original effort.

He said: "The stories are so different that I don't think you can argue this is a sequel. This is such an American response. It's just words. I have written about Mr C, a 76-year-old man.

Salinger wrote a book about a a 16-year-biy named Holden Caulfield. It's a story about growing old and old age and finding yourself in the world." (ANI)
