Thief returns cash after feeling guilty!

Melbourne, Thu, 28 May 2009 ANI

Melbourne, May 28 (ANI): A thief feeling guilty after stealing more than 10,000 dollars from a butcher returned most of the money a week later.

Mark Bollinghaus, owner of Albury-Wodonga Haus of Meat chain of stores, said he was stunned to find 90 per cent of the cash accompanied by a note slipped under the door of his store.

"The story of the theft was on the local TV and local paper and I think the pressure - maybe from friends and relatives - and guilt may have been too much," News.com.au quoted Bollinghaus as saying.

"In the note he said he was sorry, he did it for a bit of a rush and wrongly thought we were insured.

"It felt like Christmas, it was a total shock.

"He must have known a bit about us because the note was addressed to me and was delivered to the store I work at," he added.

The thief, believed to be aged in his 20s, was caught by a security camera leaving the Centro shopping centre at Wodonga, on the Victorian side of the border with New South Wales.

He used a key to get into the butcher store's coolroom and smashed open a safe and stole the money on May 17.

The money was returned to the Albury store by Tuesday this week. (ANI)
