Delhi Police officer dies in road accident

New Delhi, May 27 (IANS) A Delhi Police officer of the VIP security wing died and four constables were injured when the official SUV he was driving rammed into a tree near Ashok hotel in the capital, an official said Wednesday.

 

Assistant sub-inspector Shiv Kumar Meena, 36, was on his way to the VIP security office at Vinay Marg Tuesday night when the accident took place. He was coming from Chanakyapuri side to Hotel Ashok.

 

 

Meena, originally from Rajasthan, lost control over the wheel and hit a tree when he tried to save a dog crossing the road, the official said.

 

 

All five were rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where Meena was pronounced dead by the doctors while the injured constables identified as Dinesh, Deepak, Arvind and Pradeep - all attached with the VIP security wing of Delhi Police - suffered minor injuries and were discharged from the hospital after initial treatment.

 

 

The police refused to confirm whether the deceased was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

 

 

'We are waiting for the post-mortem examination report,' the official said.

 

 

According to police sources, Meena was on his way to pick up a senior official and gave a lift to the four constables who requested him to drop them at a near by eatery.
