CM Buddhadeb orders judicial probe in Rizwanurâ??s murder case

SEP 28 : West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has ordered for a judicial probe into a Muslim youth Rizwanur’s murder.

Rizwanur Rehman, the name brings a helpless picture of a youth who fought and crave for police protection but got none.

Rizwanur who was found dead beside the railway track, did nothing but married Priyanka Todi the daughter of an Industrialist Ashok Todi.

The unnatural death with injury on head sparked off violence in Kolkata and may reveal many angles as both CID and now the judicial probe take its path in coming days.

Earlier a CID team had issued summons to Priyanka Todi and her father after collecting a SIM card and copies of Rizwanur’s letters claiming the legal status of his marriage to Priyanka. Both were interrogated for hours as per the report.

The role of police remain doubtful throughout the process, and the protesters raised there voice against the question mark on the police. The chief minister also made it clear that government will make no attempt to protect any police officer involved in any kind of harassment with the victim.

Sumitra Padmanabhan, General Secretary, Humanist Organsistion said ''In this case the police have disregarded legal rights. We as Bengalis are ashamed of our police,''.

The victim married Priyanka without her parents consent on August 18 under Special Marriage Act but Priyanka’s father Ashok Todi opposed the match and lodge a missing and a case of abduction against Rizwanur.

The victim had been receiving threats that he would be kidnapped and murdered if he did not let Priyanka return to her parents.

Priyanka later went to see her father, when she got the information that he is ill. But she did not return back as a result Rizwanur approached Human Rights Organisation for help. He had also made written complaints about his harassments by some top police officers.

Few days later in Sep 21 (Friday) he was found dead near a railway track with injury on his head.

Various organisations have come together to voice against the police who are covering the crime.

In the meantime the government has promised to take the matter seriously, and would take the entire necessary steps against the police personals involved in the case. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has directed for a judicial probe but it is interesting to see how much time the probe will take as most of earlier cases are just gone for dump consuming huge amount of time.
