Agartala, August 4 (ANI): Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) General Secretary Prakash Karat today lambasted the Congress party of using "money power" to win the July 22 trust vote, saying it was a tainted victory.

Karat was addressing his party men in an open session on the inauguration of the three-day 19th state conference of CPI (M)'s Tripura unit commenced here today at Rabindra Bhavan.

On the Indo-US Civil Nuclear deal the leader said that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approved on Friday the nuclear safeguards agreement with India, which is a key requirement for an Indo-US nuclear deal but signing of the deal means that India shall have to sacrifice its foreign policies and do what Washington want.

Karat further added that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is presently doing everything to please IMF and US.

The party top leader declared that Left will continue fight against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Dismissing the Congress leadership's thinking that the CPI (M) and the Left had been isolated after the UPA won over the Samajwadi Party, Karat said the fact was that more parties have joined hands with the Left parties after the withdrawal of support to oppose the Congress-led alliance and BJP controlled by communal forces like Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

He said rather the Congress in its basking success of confidence vote is getting isolated from the people and covered with moral opprobrium for its corrupt practices and it has been revealed in every state election which Congress have lost.

Karat announced the Left parties were rallying the other democratic and secular forces to carry on the fight against the anti-people policies and the anti-national foreign policy of the Congress-led government.

He added that August 20th the Left minded trade union are going for a nation wide strike as protest against the anti-people and anti-nation policies of the present government.

The CPI-M general secretary said the Congress would have to go to the people in the next few months and predicted that a just punishment awaits them.

Warning the government against pushing through various pieces of legislation such as the Pension Bill, the Banking Amendment Bill and the Foreign Education Providers Bill, the CPI (M) leader said the Left parties would work hard to see that such legislations are defeated on the floor of the House, besides carrying out big protest actions.

He however, said that the Congress has managed to win the trust vote but is well aware that shall not be able to get a Bill pass in the parliament and so has not called for the Monsoon Session of the Parliament in spite of the due date for notification being over.

CPI (M) sources said that altogether 515 party members from 18 different divisions are attending the conference including Politbureau member Sitaram Yechhuri and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. By Pinaki Das (ANI)
