Sep 25 : The mystery of several of murders in the capital has been solved by the police. It was believed till now that a hammer man is behind all these killing.

The Delhi Police has claimed to have arrested an 80 year old woman and her relative in West Delhi for killing her granddaughter over money.

Refuting the Hammer man theory Robin Hibu Deputy Commissioner of Police ( West Delhi) said, "there is no hammer man or psychopath killer in Baljit Nagar area of Anand Parbat. These are media generated idioms. All nine incidents in which three women were killed and seven sustained head injuries are not interlinked or connected”.

He claimed that police has arrested Raji Devi, an 80 year woman and her relative Sheriya Nersi who was paid Rs 10,000 by Raji Devi to eliminate her 19 year old granddaughter Rajni. Both of them were staying in a rented room in Bheel Basti of Baljit Nagar.

"Rajni had kept with Raji Devi an amount of Rs 20,000, which she saved from her earnings from working as a domestic help. The victim was engaged to one Babu and the two were to tie the nuptial knot in November against Raji Devi's wishes," Hibu told reporters.

"During interrogations Raji revealed that she wanted to retain Rajni's savings and to keep money she hired Narsi and paid him Rs 5,000 as advance to eliminate Rajni. Narsi then killed Rajni by striking at her head with a blunt object.

"He also stripped her so that it would seem to be a case of molestation. He then wiped all the blood with her clothes and threw them in a ditch. After killing, he fled to Rajasthan, while Raji told her neighbours that Rajni was killed by a hammer man," Hibu added.

The police claimed to have recovered her clothes and the tawa (iron pan) used in the killing.

It was because of this murder the Hammer Man theory erupted, as there were multiple injuries on the victims head inflicted by blunt object.

Police said that Sheriya has confessed of his involvement in the crime, and he with Raji Devi attacked Rajni while she was sleeping. They hit her head with iron-pan till she died. Raji then cleaned the floor, changed her clothes and threw her cloths in a ditch.

It was Raji who suggested that Rajni was killed by the Hammer man, Police got suspicious when they found that Rajni’s brother in law was missing since the incident.

Robin Hibu said that Sudarshana, a 45 year old lady suffered head injury and she was mentally unstable, he mentioned that she was never attended by any of her relatives. Denying the claim that she was found naked, he said that police are investigating the other cases in which the women’s were attacked by blunt object.

However, DCP (west), Robin Hibu said, ‘‘this arrest only goes to show that there is no such person as Hammer man. I would like to, once again, ask the people of Baljeet Nagar not to have any fear. They should feel safe in their homes and verify the authenticity of any rumours doing the rounds.’’

But in spite of the Police claims people are not ready to give up their suspicion as they are drawing similarities that all the women murdered had head injuries.

The people out there are also not ready to leave the security measures taken by them to fright this crime on their own.
