The Hubli of today was formerly Rayara Hubli or 'Eleya Puravada Halli' or 'Purballi' that was marked by Bhavani Shankara temple and Jaina basti. During the reign of Vijayanagara Rayas, Rayara Hubli developed as a commercial hub in the region and as center of trade for cotton, saltpeter, iron and other things.

Getting to Hubli is quite easy, as it is well connected through excellent road and rail networks.
