DR Congo Civil War and Other Developments
The Ugandan troops left the DR Congo in 2003 after President Joseph Kabila signed a transitional constitution pending elections. However the peace could not last long and rebels tried to stage another coup in June 2004 that was repulsed.

Recently there has been resurgence in the Congolese mining sector that has boosted Kinshasa?s fiscal scenario. 2005 was a watershed year for DR Congo as voters approved of a new constitution and the ICJ ruled that Uganda must compensate Dr Congo for human rights abuse committed till 2003. .
The first free polls of Congo were held after four decades in 2006 in which Joseph Kabila emerged victorious after a run-off vote. However the government force had to soon contend with renegade Nkunda?s forces that left 50,000 homeless. The stalemate ended in a 2008 peace deal, however it couldn?t last long and government forces soon clashed with the Hutu militias and Laurent Nkunda?s forces in April 2008.
