How Military Service in Ukraine Works
Ukraine, like many other countries, has compulsory standards with regards to military service. People in certain ages will need to be in the military for a certain period of time. This is used as a means of helping to get people in Ukraine to be well trained for all sorts of events. It is also used as a means of helping to support different missions that people in the Ukraine are working on throughout the world.
Military service is compulsory for people who are between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five. This means that people in these ages must be in the military for a certain period of time. People can voluntarily serve beyond their required needs if they want to.
Laws in Ukraine state that the amount of service time in the military will vary according to the branch that a person is enrolling in. A member of the national army or air force must serve for at least twelve months. A member of the navy must serve for at least eighteen months.
The compulsory service standards are similar to what is found in some other countries near Ukraine. These include such notable nearby countries as Russia, Turkey and Finland.
The people who are asked to serve in the military in Ukraine may end up serving in some of the varying deployments that Ukraine is dealing with. Ukraine works primarily with peacekeeping functions. Combat almost never happens with the military. Some of the places that the military is currently deployed in include Afghanistan, Kosovo, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq and Sudan.
The number of people who can serve in the military can be very large. Ukraine has at least ten million men and another ten million women who are available for service in the country's military.
