Netherlands Slowly Heading Back Up

Many countries were hit hard by the global economic recession and the Netherlands was one of those. They have had a difficult time since 2008 even though their GDP stated a growth rate. Even in the following year, they displayed some growth after first seeing a decline. This slow improvement is expected to continue.

There are certain aspects that are contributing to this growth. The level of exports has increased. International trade is the largest contributor to the economy of the Dutch. In 2010, exports went up by 17% and imports increased by slightly less. These percentages have been influenced by the prices of oil and by the price of the Euro when compared to the dollar.

Since late 2008, the Dutch government put three economic stimulus packages into place. The first and third has a lot of monetary value while the second mainly consisted of government promises. These promises indicated that the government would somehow stimulate the exports and lending sectors to expand the revenues.

These plans were to see results before 2011 but because of the government interventions in the financial sector, the finances of the nation have declined. At the end of 2010, the government was scheduled to sell its shares in the Fortis Bank. The banks to which the loans were given to are now being collected upon. This will give the revenues a bit of a boost.

Even though the economy in the Netherlands has struggled between 2008 and 2010, there are recovery plans made. The inflation has not been as high as in the past and there is additional cautious growth expected for later in 2011 because of some potential investments. If these investments work out as planned, there may be funds put into the deficit and efforts made to decrease the level of unemployment.
