Georgia Growth Looking Up
In the past, there were substantial investments in this country as well as a lot
of government spending. This increased the growth of the economy in this region
but unfortunately, this growth has been on the decline in the last five years.
The downturn in the country has been heavily influenced by the global financial
crisis.
After the growth between 2006 and 2007, the country was in conflict again with
Russia and there were less investments flowing into the area. There were
additional remittances from workers which also had a negative impact on the
country. Since then however, in 2010, the growth has been encouraged and the
economy looks to be getting a bit better.
Most of the economic activities in the region include cultivating various crops.
They grow an assortment of products such as citrus fruits, grapes, and
hazelnuts. There is also some mining activity to contribute such as that of
copper and manganese. They do have a small industrial sector as well. This is
involved in the creation of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, metals,
machinery, chemicals and aircraft.
There has been an improvement in most recent times with various sectors such as
banking services, mining and construction. However since the amount of
investments available for the country has declined, some of these sectors are at
risk for reduced availability of funds.
In the past, there have been chronic energy shortages but these have been
overcome much of this because of the renovations to it hydroelectric power
systems. They do rely much on the imports of gas and oil products from such
places as Azerbaijan but these imports have replaced some of those that
previously were brought in from Russia.
There are plenty of activities happening in Georgia that can influence its
wealth or lack thereof because of its dependence on other countries. They are
looking to make improvements, which is something that the natives look forward
to seeing more of in the future.
